Artwork and essays by Blair students Jose Carlos Virgen, Nancy Mendoza and Matthew Teon were named as winners in the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Contest. Congratulations!
Jose Carlos Virgen won first place in the art contest and will receive a $300 prize. Nancy Mendoza and Matthew Teon, as essay winners, will read their entries at the Martin Luther King day celebration at the Jackie Robinson Park on Mon. Jan. 16. Their essays addressed the theme, “Considering life in America today, how have Dr. King’s dreams significantly impacted where we are and how will they help shape our future?”
This contest is sponsored annually by the MLK Community Coalition and is open to students in PUSD and local private schools. The MLK Community Coalition has held this essay contest every year since it was formed in 1985 as part of its mission to keep Dr. King’s dream alive in Pasadena, Altadena and our surrounding area.
