The Armory’s Off The Wall! art auction on Saturday evening drew in hundreds of guests for hours of good-hearted bidding wars, miniature versions of a staggering array of delicious entrees, performance art, and plenty of conversation.
Surprised patrons were greeted by two performers twisting and dangling, sometimes upside down, on aerial silks. At times they moved to the music and at others they writhed in the suspended fabric like caterpillars in their cocoons.
Guests scrambled to bid on their favorite pieces while others met the artists that created them. Paintings, sculptures, and photography peppered the walls but were soon snatched up by their new owners.
The night was lubricated by the highly-revered Lagunitas Brewery.
Servers passed trays of bite-sized specialties from many local Pasadena restaurants, including rosemary shrimp from Ruth’s Chris Steak House, cute little take away boxes filled with noodles from Saladang, and a mountain of cheese, vegetables, and fruit from Bristol Farms. The night ended with plus-sized macarons in a variety of colors and flavors and sinful looking chocolate cups from Roy’s.
The event benefitted the Armory Center for the Arts, which offers free art classes and development training for teachers among other art-centered services for the community.
By all indications, the impressive night was nothing less than a hit.
