Refresh your home’s style without spending the time and energy on a full scale remodel. We spoke with Jeanne Chung, interior designer and owner of Cozy•Stylish•Chic, to get her tips on how to make your home look and feel like new.
Chung is a Pasadena native and design blogger who is participating in the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts for the First Time this year. She is responsible for the Upstairs Guest Bedroom. She describes her concept as a combination of traditional and modern. The bedroom features an edgy wallpaper paired with a more subtle nature motif as well as classic shapes and innovative new technology. Here are her suggestions on how to refresh a room.
1.Deck the Walls
“Of course, painting a room is easy and relatively inexpensive,” she said.”Wallpaper is also a quick fix that makes a big difference.”
Currently, Chung says many customers are using online sites like Pinterest and Houzz to search for design inspiration and request specific patterns or colors. Chung adds that wallpaper is a great choice for an accent wall and can add drama to any room.
2. Get Personal
“Customization for the home is what I do best,” said Chung.
The Upstairs Guest Bedroom in the Showcase House has custom printed wood tiles and Chung feels this choice adds a special touch. She explains that personalized colors and designs are a result of the internet age – people want something that they can’t just order online – they’re looking for a more personal touch.
3. What’s Old is New
Chung is a fan of vintage and handmade items because they add warmth to a room. She suggests looking for statement pieces at the Rose Bowl Flea Market or Pasadena City College Flea Market and incorporating these unique finds into your home decor.
Overall, Chung’s number one piece of advice is to blend design periods within each room so that you can easily swap styles for example, a mix of classic and modern or vintage and edgy.
“Mix and match styles so that the room will remain current and you can have a slow evolution of style,” she said.
