Sierra Madre Playhouse presents its first 2017 chamber music concert in partnership with the Colburn School on January 22. Performing will be Hyewon Chang on piano.
The program: Beethoven Piano Sonata Op. 81a “Les adieux” (16 min); Scriabin Sonata No. 2 “Fantasy Sonata” (12 min); Intermission: Schumann Humoreske Op. 20 (30 min).
A native of South Korea, Ms. Chang is a Bachelor of Music candidate at Colburn Conservatory of Music. She was prize winner at the Bradshaw & Buono International Piano Competition, the American Protégé Piano Competition, Korea’s Segye-Ilbo Music Competition, Young Artist Music Competition and a finalist at the New York International Piano Competition. She performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, Los Angeles, Canada, Italy, and Germany and at the birthplace of Franz Joseph Haydn in Rohrau, Austria. In addition, Ms. Chang was selected as a performer for the “Artists of Tomorrow” concert with the Brentwood Westwood Symphony Orchestra and Culver City Symphony Orchestra. She participated in a number of festivals, Banff Centre Music Festival, Orford Music Festival, Amalfi Coast Festival, and Klaviersommer Cochem.

Opened in 2003 as the collegiate, degree-granting unit of the Colburn School, the Colburn Conservatory of Music has become one of the nation’s leading educators of highly talented college-age students pursuing the most rigorous classical instrumental music performance training. Programs include the Bachelor of Music degree, Performance Diploma, Professional Studies Certificate, Artist Diploma, and the Master of Music degree.
