Pittance Chamber Music presents artists from the ranks of the Grammy Award-winning Los Angeles Opera Orchestra and Chorus in a program including works by Beethoven, Schubert, Brahms, Franck, Piazzola and Gernot Wolfgang at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music on June 22 at 8:00 p.m.

Violinist Lisa Sutton, who is the Associate Concertmaster of the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra, founded Pittance in 2013. Says Sutton, “The original idea behind Pittance was to raise up the extraordinary yet invisible musicians of the Los Angeles Opera Orchestra from the pit to the stage to perform in small ensembles – hence the name “Pittance”, a play on words referring to these smaller offerings from the orchestra pit. To elevate things further we expanded to include other L.A. Opera resident artists from the Domingo Colburn Stein Young Artists Program, as well as members of the Los Angeles Opera Chorus. By performing in smaller groups and smaller venues we endeavor to personalize opera, allowing audiences a more intimate view of the wonderful artists who are the heart and soul of the Los Angeles Opera company. We also endeavor to have as much fun as possible in the process!”

The June showcase concert is unique because the individual artists have selected the pieces they would like most to perform. As a result the program contains a lively variety of repertoire ranging from Beethoven to Gernot Wolfgang (a living composer) performed by vocalists and instrumentalists from almost every section of the orchestra.

In June, Pittance Chamber Music will announce its 2016/17 inaugural season which will include three concerts, two of which will take place in the Eva and Marc Stern Grand Hall of the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion at the Music Center, and one at the Colburn School’s Zipper Hall, both located in downtown Los Angeles.

Tickets are $35; $20 for seniors; $10 for students with valid ID, and are available online at PittanceChamberMusic.org, or at the venue on the night of the concert, if tickets remain. Barrett Hall, Pasadena Conservatory of Music is located at 100 North Hill Avenue, Pasadena.
