The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) will celebrate the accomplishments of the past year and announce goals for the future during the annual State of the Schools Address Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 9:30 a.m. at Eliot Arts Magnet Academy (2184 N. Lake Ave., Altadena). As part of the address, the PUSD Board of Education and Superintendent Brian McDonald, Ed.D. will discuss the district’s strategic directions that focus on ensuring high achievement for all PUSD students and closing the achievement gap.

The program includes performances by Eliot Arts Magnet Academy student dancers, musicians and singers.

Board President Elizabeth Pomeroy, Ph.D., will open the address by highlighting the partnerships with business, community and other organizations as well as families in supporting student success. Board members’ remarks will focus on topics such as state funding and accountability, facilities, college and career pathways, alternative education and other innovative programs.

Located in the Altadena, Eliot Arts Magnet Academy serves more than 500 students in grades 6-8. Eliot Arts Magnet is a visual and performing arts academy with a focus on rigorous Common Core instruction through an arts lens. Students engage in arts integrated project-based learning. The school offers music, dance, theater arts, and visual arts courses in state-of-the-art facilities such as the new Mac lab, video recording studio and the refurbished Carl D. Roeder Auditorium.
