Arroyo Pacific Academy is home away from home to many international students, and the English Language Development program was established in order to assist in their English language learning process. Each summer, Arroyo Pacific holds an English Language Development (ELD) summer program for new international students. This program is designed to help the students acclimate to a new country and an American school, as well as to teach them about the greater Los Angeles area through experiential learning.
Each year, a theme is chosen for the summer ELD program. This year, the program focused on the Arts and Entertainment Southern California. Each week, an experiential learning trip is scheduled to engage the students in a different form of the performing arts. The outings include trips to see Inside Out at the El Capitan in Hollywood, The Phantom of the Opera at the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Orange County, and the last outing is a visit to The Grammy Museum at L.A. Live in Downtown Los Angeles. Southern California is known for the entertainment industry and we, at Arroyo Pacific Academy, showcase the wide variety of performing arts available here. Each experiential learning activity presents a different form of a specialized art that is a deeply imbedded in the greater Los Angeles area’s culture and provides the students an opportunity to listen to and speak English as they interact with a variety of tour guides, sales people, and performers.
