Hillside School, a college-focused school with a four-year high school program and a complete and accredited three-year middle school program, has a lineup of special events this summer and fall.
The school, which just celebrated its 32nd Annual Graduation and Awards Banquet at the Angeles National Golf Club last Thursday, May 21st, is now looking forward to its summer program. The Hillside Summer School will start this coming Monday, June 1st and will welcome over 300 students from the San Gabriel and San Fernando Valleys to its core classes.
Classes are two-hour intensive lecture and labs held daily, with group, Internet, and project-based learning to be held outside of the class. Core subjects will be taught throughout the day. The summer school is flexible enough to allow students to choose their own time to finish their homework.
Cool right? Even the Western Association of Schools and Colleges thinks so.
Says Dr. Lee Duncan from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges about Hillside’s summer program; “I found the curricular mapping to be excellent, the assessment process to be thorough, and the expectations by teachers to be high. The direct instruction was rigorous and outcome-driven. With the growing use of online learning, independent study options, and alternative education models, this program will likely be duplicated elsewhere in the future because of its success and efficiency.”
Another thing to look into are Hillside’s fall programs. Come fall, Hillside School will hold a newly revised art program. There will be visits to local art museums, redesigning of the art room/caboose (this is where classes will be held), student art show, and monthly student art features.
The school is also developing a revitalized Leadership Program. This program will not only involve the school’s student government but also other students who are interested to increase their knowledge of leadership in a variety of fields. There will be seminars that will enhance leadership qualities, plus a possible placement in day shadow program with an elected official or corporate office.
Hillside School is located at 4331 Oak Grove Drive, La Cañada. For more information, call (818) 790-3044 or visit hillsideforsuccess.org.
