St. Monica Academy senior Rosalina Emnace has won the L.A. Archdiocesan Christian Service Award for her outstanding service to the community. The award is given each year to the student from each school who has excelled most in Christian service. Archbishop Jose Gomez celebrated Mass and conferred the awards on Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels. The following list highlights some of Rosalina’s projects and activities during her high school career:

– Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association (GLAZA) High School Student Volunteer – Members complete a 10-week training course to learn about the world’s biomes, animal adaptations, conservation, ecology, and education, and they are then required to volunteer a minimum of 60 hours per year for two years.

– She has served as a volunteer representative for Children’s Hospital Los Angeles for the Boone Fetter Clinic at Stephanie’s Day held at the CBS Studios Lot. This is a resource fair for those on the Autism Spectrum Disorder. She also volunteered at the Autism Speaks Walkathon held at the Pasadena Rose Bowl.

– She has provided entertainment and served food at St. Columbkille parish for Christmas events.

– Serves as a Lector at weekend Holy Mass at her parish, Holy Trinity.

– Volunteers for a lay Formation Group, the Disciples of Jesus and Mary – assisting in the setup of retreats and meetings.

– For 2-1/2 years she has served as a Youth Minister and Team Leader for Incarnation Catholic Church’s Confirmation Process.

– Attended and volunteered at the Go2Bat4Life events for the Archdiocese of Los Angeles.

– Participated and worked for the Glendale Community event – CROP Walk (a fundraising event to support Catholic Charities).

– Was selected and participated in a week-long Christian Leadership Retreat to develop Parish/Church Leaders.

– Participated in the Christian Service 4Life Youth Rally held at Stub Hub Stadium.

– Participated in the 1st Youth Rally held at Our Lady of Angels Cathedral hosted by Matthew Kelly.

– For three years has participated in the Youth Choir that sings Christmas Carols at Glen Terra Convalescent Home.

– For 2 years has assisted and represented St. Monica Academy at “High School Information Nights” at various elementary campuses.

– Has served as a scorekeeper for various SMA sports teams

Rosalina’s father, Mr. Ray Emnace, says: “Rosalina’s most notable personality trait is her willingness to serve – to serve God first, all those around her – family and friends and those she doesn’t even know. She is engaging and very open and feels it is very important to make anyone and everyone around her feel welcome and valued.”
