Jacqueline M. Jefferies isn’t as much of a jewelry maker as she is an artist. Her work, using wiring, beading, and precious stones, are wearable pieces but create an overall look that give more impact than a traditional necklace.
“I try to go for a maximum volume with the lightest weight possible,” divulges Jefferies. The artist has been making jewelry for 30 years and has had some impressive clients; “I’ve done [pieces] for people that have gone to the Oscars!”
Each item is carefully hand crafted and can take weeks to complete explains Jefferies. “One piece, for [instance] a necklace, could be say, five hours a day for at least three weeks. The beaded animals I do, some of these take three months.”
Using an array of materials, like pearls, garnets, and amethyst, her art is always extremely colorful. The layers of beads interlock and create necklaces that look beautiful both off and on the wearer.
Jefferies does custom orders as well as a wide variety of items available for purchase immediately. Her custom works are always extremely unique and creative, shares Jefferies. “People have [given me] pieces from their mother or grandmother that they want to take a part and reuse, repurpose.”
A special exhibit featuring her designs was showcased recently at Padua DK Designs.
