The Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) will celebrate its 140th birthday during the annual State of the Schools Address Thursday, September 4th at 9 a.m. at Wilson Middle School. As part of the address, The PUSD Board of Education will look back on the history of PUSD and what direction the district will be going in the future.
The day begins with the State of the Schools Address in the refurbished gymnasium on the Wilson campus that was part of a $3.3 Million project at the campus funded by Measure TT that also overhauled locker rooms, replaced the fire alarms on campus and renovated the student quad area. At 9:30 a.m., the program will move outside to the new quad where attendees will join in with Wilson Middle School students in singing happy birthday to the district and enjoying some birthday cake.
The address and celebration are free and open to the public with an RSVP by September 2. Attendees can RSVP by visiting www.gopusd.com/RSVP or by calling (626) 396-3606. There is still time for students, staff, parents, partners and residents to give their opinion of the state of schools in Pasadena by visiting www.gopusd.com/stateofschools.
Located in the southeast Pasadena, Wilson Middle School serves over 550 students in grades 6-8. The school offers an advanced studies program, marching band, choir and theater programs, and robotics and computer graphic design classes. Also on the Wilson campus is the Pasadena Adult Learning Skills (PALS) program which provides community-based skill development and independent living skills for special needs students to help them make the transition from school to adult living.
Present at the event will be a curator from the Pasadena Museum of History which currently has the exhibition Crown City Jubilee, which celebrates PUSD’s 140th birthday and also features many other local businesses and institutions with significant anniversaries in 2014. As part of the birthday celebration, PUSD students and employees and a guest can enjoy free admission to the museum from September 3-7 with a school or district ID.
Spanish translation will be available at the event. The 2014 State of the Schools Address will be broadcast on KLRN-TV (Ch. 95 on Charter and Ch. 99 on U-Verse) the following week.
