Hathaway-Sycamores Child and Family Services recently received a California Awards for Performance Excellence (CAPE)â„¢ Eureka Bronze Award. Presented annually by the California Council for Excellence (CCE), CAPE Eureka Awards are given to California private and public-sector organizations that are setting high standards by applying the principles of the Baldrige Performance Excellence Program. (This program was named in honor of Malcolm Baldrige, who served as Secretary of Commerce from 1981 until his death in 1987.)
Hathaway-Sycamores – which is one of Los Angeles County’s largest, nonprofit, private children’s mental-health and welfare agencies – was presented the award at the CCE’s 20th Annual Best Practices and Awards Conference that was held in Long Beach on March 18. As part of the award-consideration process, members of the CAPE Board of Examiners spent three months – including a weeklong site visit rigorously assessing Hathaway-Sycamores’ 50-page application addressing the seven categories of Baldrige Criteria for Performance Excellence: leadership; strategic planning; customer focus; measurement, analysis, and knowledge management; workforce focus; operations focus; and results.
Commenting on receipt of a CAPE Eureka Award, Hathaway-Sycamores’ President and CEO William Martone said, “To receive this level of recognition for performance excellence validates our organization’s commitment to providing high-quality care and impactful services to the children, youth, young adults and families who turn to Hathaway-Sycamores for help. Every member of our staff is committed to continual improvement and best practices, and this award reflects that shared commitment.â€
