Pasadena is a city brimming with community – from the iconic Rose Parade to locally owned businesses, the farmer’s market and free events – it’s a place you can meet and get to know your neighbor.

Two local icons, Vroman’s Bookstore and Jones Coffee Roasters, are embarking on a unique partnership to bring two of your favorite things together – books and coffee.

The Next Chapter will be an adventure-themed coffee shop that focuses on bringing people together. The space will include a collection of travel memorabilia and it will be a “No TV” zone, to make the space more conducive to conversation.

“People are very hungry for a destination that can create a community and transcend business operations. I think both independent bookstores and coffee shops do that,” said Allison Hill, President of Vroman’s.

The space will include old photographs from Jones’ coffee farm in Guatemala to complement the old photos of Vroman’s Bookstore. There will, of course, be copious cups of coffee and shared WiFi from the bookstore.

This creative collaboration has gotten people “deliriously excited.”

“We know people who come in every day, sometimes for generations,” said Hill. She feels that Jones embodies this same community-centric philosophy and sense of fun that marks Vroman’s.

The Next Chapter is scheduled to soft open on January 18. “It’s a creative work in progress [but] until we see the construction crew’s taillights we won’t settle on a grand opening date,” Hill added.

The Next Chapter is located at Vroman’s Bookstore on 695 E. Colorado Blvd., Pasadena.
