Southern California has always been known for a healthy, active lifestyle and a focus on organic, responsibly sourced meals.  No, that doesn’t mean all we do is eat kale—actually, far from the opposite.  Bison burgers, dumplings, tacos, even boozy cocktails all come in organic versions, depending on where you look.

truefood3Soon, Pasadenans won’t have to look far.

True Food Kitchen promises you “Honest Food That Tastes Really Good”.  They recently opened a location in El Segundo if you are interested in a sneak peek, but are currently eyeing a location in Old Pasadena that’s been collecting dust since Picnik’s departure back in January.

Their food follows the anti-inflammatory diet made popular by Dr. Andrew Weil. The diet relies on whole foods like fresh fruits and vegetables, fish, whole grains, spices, cooked Asian mushrooms and dairy. At the top of the anti-inflammatory food pyramid? Chocolate!

The menu for True Food looks absolutely delicious, covering everything from delicious pizzas and sandwiches to breakfast burritos. They offer lunch, dinner, dessert, and even brunch menus.  All of their drinks and spirits are organic and gluten free. How cool is that?

If you partied too much the night before perhaps you should give their Hangover RX a try. It is a refreshing mix of coconut water, pineapple, vanilla and orange. They have gluten free pizza and make the dough fresh daily. Try the Summer Tomato, topped with heirloom bruschetta, pesto, arugula, goat cheese, and saba. Is your mouth watering yet?

In the mood for some spice? Try the Panang Curry. You can even substitute for gluten free noodles. Feeling saucy? Try the Spaghetti Squash Casserole for dinner. They promise to responsibly source every protein they serve so be sure to ask about the catch of the day.

Got kids? Bring them too! A healthy lifestyle starts at home and they will love the kids menu. Out of six options three are gluten free. Choices include grilled chicken with watermelon and corn on the cob and a mozzarella and organic tomato pizza. Yummy!

Have room for dessert? With gluten free and vegetarian choices you can pick a perfect end to dinner for anyone at your table. The flourless chocolate cake looks scrumptious. It is 72% cocoa. It is topped with vanilla ice cream, almond butter and caramel. Be still my heart.

They have a full bar with an extensive beer and wine list.

Let’s hope the rumors are True.
