Nowadays, more and more people are clamoring for rose wines, and Whole Foods is aiming to meet this rising demand. Ever since Whole Foods started focusing on their rose selection, it has gotten the attention of buyers from all over the country, thanks to their active promotional campaigns and wide selection of rose wines, from the Chateau Miraval Côtes de Provence Rosé, France to Bieler Père et Fils Rosé, France.

Robert Davies of Whole Foods explains, “About three years ago, we did our first pointed promotional activity and we called it the Rosé Garden. And there was about 15 to 25 percent increase [in sales] year after year. In the second year, we called it the Rosé Revolution and this got the attention of the global buyers.”

And the sales of rose wines, according to Davies, is phenomenal.

“The procurement has been amazing—the quantity and the commitments we’ve made to the market. We have absolutely no fear that we’re going to be stuck with these wines next year,” says Davies. “Last year, we saw a 44 percent increase in rosé sales from the year prior—44 percent. So this year we’re looking to equal that and maybe get a little greedy and go to 50 or 55.”

“Last year we sold 61,000 cases of rosé. 61,000 cases! That’s 51 containers of rosé. That’s 1,020 pallets of wine,” he adds. It’s hard to argue with those numbers: it seems rosé really is starting to make a splash in the states.

Davies believes that one of the reasons rosé wines in Whole Foods are selling well is that female champagne drinkers are transitioning over to rosé. Another cause for it’s growing success is that it is extremely versatile and can be paired with a wide variety of cuisines.

All brands offered at Whole Foods use sustainable practices and organic farming, making for some truly unique and special vintages.  No batch is the same color, which makes trying new wineries and vintages a fun and interesting hobby.

Whole Foods is selling 25 rose wines, with many more brands coming soon. The average wine sells at $12.99, but a lot of the rosé in Whole Foods are starting at $9.99. Says Davies, “This is kind of sweet spot. It’s very approachable price point for a lot of people.”

Quite a rosy deal. As the weather turns to sunny days and warm nights, why not see what all the fuss is about? You might just become a convert yourself.
