In 2007, Lark Cake Shop opened their doors on what once was a quiet strip of Sunset in Silver Lake. Ever since then, they have been churning out cute and creative confections for the now bustling town.
Obviously, the shop is doing something right: open since the first week of February, Lark Cake Shop has expanded to Pasadena.
Lark Cake Shop sells an assortment of cakes, cupcakes, cookies, scones, pies, and other pastries that are inspired by the Bohemian modern aesthetic of Silver Lake—thus the look of the baked goods is stylized yet simple, and the taste homemade and delicious.
The bakery uses only the freshest locally produced or distributed ingredients. For example, bakers only use California butter and their daily supplier is the Challenge Dairy Cooperative, a cooperative of more than 600 California dairies.
The store is earth-friendly, too! To minimize their environmental footprint, Lark Cake Shop only uses compostable cups, clamshell boxes, and paper bags.
Some of their intricately decorated and yummy cakes that can also be custom-decorated are Colleen’s Caramel Cake, Sara’s Famous Chocolate Mousse Cake, Berry Shortcake, and Vegan Chocolate Orange.
Some of their beautifully designed and topnotch cupcakes include flavors like Chocolate Coconut, Black and White, Chocolate Mocha, and Nora’s Lemon.
According to Caroline Vera from their Pasadena location, one of their most popular specialties is their icebox cake.
“A lot of people come in just for those!”
Vera shared that all of their goodies are baked fresh daily at their Silver Lake location and trucked to Pasadena, so really the only thing standing in the way between you and some killer cakes is traffic.
The shop also offers tea and bottled drinks as well as drip coffee. However, for those who can’t bear to have a cupcake without a cappuccino, Vera suggests walking a few feet over to their friends at Lavender and Honey. In fact, they have a quiet partnership: the bakery only offers sweets while the coffee shop only offers savories and their espresso drinks.
Sounds like a match made in heaven! It seems Hill and Washington is becoming the next place to be for a relaxing sip and snack. We can’t wait to see who moves in next!
