Kicking off the 100th year of Red Cross service in Pasadena, about 60 businessmen and women spent their lunch hour at a mini-CPR course held in front of City Hall.

Wescom Credit Union partnered with the Red Cross for the event and brought 30 of their employees for the non-certified CPR class.

Executive Board member for Red Cross Liz Giordano said, “We could be prepared that doesn’t mean you are.”

When an emergency happens, first responders may be tied up and not able to get to every person, so Giordano said it is essential for every resident to be CPR certified or at least have training so they can step in and help before a first responder gets to the scene.

This was the first CPR event held in Pasadena, other similar events have been held throughout Los Angeles County.

Vice Mayor Jacque Robinson greeted everyone. Other Mayors in attendance included Temple City Mayor Cynthia Sternquist, San Marino Mayor Richard Ward, and Monterey Park Mayor Anthony Wong.

This event launches a series of centennial celebration events over the next year. The next event will be a luncheon on December 6 at the Sheraton Pasadena.
