On Saturday, September 28, Pasadena Museum of History celebrated the achievements of its 2013 Contemporary History Maker honorees at a festive benefit dinner and silent auction in the museum’s Fenyes Estate gardens. Hahn & Hahn LLP, the Dorothy Trask Clune Murray Foundation, Nat B. Read, and Marilyn & Jud Roberts joined an elite roster of individuals and organizations honored with this designation since the award was inaugurated in 2000. A Contemporary History Maker is defined as an individual, business, or corporation whose civic passion, innovative design, or charitable interests continue to shape Pasadena’s unique and rich heritage.
The black tie soiree featured a gourmet dinner created by Chef Joachim Splichal of Patina Restaurant Group and a quartet of outstanding wines selected by Guest Sommelier Chris Meeske of Mission Wines (South Pasadena) with assistance from the event’s Sommelier Sponsor, Lagerlof, Senecal, Gosney & Kruse LLP. More than 250 guests enjoyed passed hors d’oeuvres:
• Blini with smoked salmon, lemon crème fraiche
• Beef sirloin crostini, tapenade, Parmigiano-Reggiano, baby arugula
• Brioche, goat cheese, grilled pear chutney
• Bamboo-spiked king trumpet mushrooms, garlic, parsley
• Farinettes – roasted chicken, shallot and blue cheese griddle cakes
and cocktails, including the specially-selected wines (2012 Domaine Sigalas, Assyrtiko/Athiri, Santorini, Greece; 2012 Meiomi, Pinot Noir, Monterey, Santa Barbara & Sonoma Counties) during the reception and silent auction prior to dinner. The dinner menu featured:
• A starter of roasted beets, aged goat cheese and hazelnut-cavolo nero pesto on little gem lettuce with shaved black bread, paired with a 2012 Francois Chidaie, Touraine Sauvignon, Val de Loire, France
• The entrée of braised short rib with red wine reduction & fennel pollen accompanied by potato confit, rainbow chard, & caramelized French butter pear, paired with a 2010 Bodega, Teso La Monja Romanico, Temperanillo, Toro, Spain.
• Dessert was a decadent triple chocolate mousse cake with crème brulee center served with caramel sauce & hazelnut crisp.
