Two weeks ago Muir Ranch at Muir High School in the Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) launched it’s first crowd funding campaign on Indiegogo to fund an expansion of its rose garden. Using the TOMS shoes model of “Buy 1, Give 1” the urban farm nonprofit has reached its initial goal of $10,000 raised to support the program.

A second goal is on the table where if Muir Ranch raises $12,000 by the end of the day, $2000 of cutflower plants will be donated to the ranch. Donors have signed up for “perks” as they are called on the funding platform that range from kale seeds and t-shirts to year-long subscriptions of organic vegetable and flower bouquets. Muir Ranch is an urban farm located at PUSD’s Muir High School just 1 mile north of the Rose Bowl with a vegetable subscription program (CSA), farmers market program and social enterprise that employs Muir students and provides good food and beautiful flowers to our community.
