Hundreds flooded the streets for a Taste of Old Pasadena supporting 30 local charities while tasting Pasadena’s best delicacies. Pasadena-Foothills Association of Realtors Charitable Foundation (PFARCF) sponsored this evening of treasure hunting the green balloons signaling one of the 35 participating restaurants throughout Old Pasadena.

Bringing world-class variety of tastes to Pasadena, tasters wandered from Mediterranean to fine dining Italian to tastes of Nepal and Korean BBQ, chocolate delights and tasty ‘Temptations.’

Restaurants did not refrain but presented their best, showcasing the known culinary delights and delicacies of the establishment.

Slater’s 50/50 offered a quarter of their best selling burger the Slater 50/50 made with half bacon and half beef, leaving some tasters in amazement at the egg on the burger.

Curious cuisiners may want to try this waiter’s favorite at La Luna Negra amidst the tasty tapas. Gregory Loomis loves the dishes Barcelona Mi Amore and Paella Valencia.

Unusual flavors like dill pickle popcorn at Popcorn-n-More and an Arugula Rocket at Kal’s Bistro made the evening memorable and widened taste bud horizons.

Some restaurants have great deals throughout every week with daily happy hours like Equator who has an especially great deal of a $1 Martini every Tuesday after 4:00 p.m.

One hundred percent of the proceeds of the evening benefit local charities made possible by the generosity of PFARCF.

One of these charities is Tierra del Sol who helps people with intellectual disabilities including students with autism, aspersers, or down syndrome attend college.

“Even six years ago this was thought of as impossible. Today were helping 640 clients,” Chris Clark said. “All they need is someone to tell them they can do it and connect them to the community college.”

Clark said he has opened the eyes of many parents who thought it would never be possible for their son or daughter to attend college.

“Hundreds of people are out here tonight ready to support charities like ours and I think that’s so wonderful,” Clark said.

Other Charities who will benefit from PFARCF’s fundraising efforts include: AIDS Service Center, CAPS for Seniors, Casa de las Amigas, Convalescent Aid Society, Door of Hope, Elizabeth House, Foothil Unity Center, Grandview Foundation, Harambee Family Center, Hillsides, Almansor Center, Journey House, Neighborhood Urban Family Center, Pasadena Child Development Center, Pasadena Senior Center, Project Cuddle, Rosemary Children’s Services, Sough Pasadena PTA Council, Tierra del Sol, Villa Esperanza

In 2012 through PFARCF’s fundraising efforts of more than $80,000, they were able to give to 22 charities as well as 12 $1000 scholarships to local high school seniors.

“The community supports us as realtors, and this is our way of giving back to the community,” PFARCF event chair Kerri Lewin said.
