The 2016 Toyota Yaris LE is subcompact hatch with the size to fit in small city parking but feature-full. It comes standard with Toyota’s Entune digital interface with a 6.1 inch touchscreen that includes HD radio, Bluetooth phone and audio capabilities and a USB connection.
The 2016 Toyota Yaris is a subcompact economy car available in the L, LE and SE trims. This review will focus on the LE trim.
The LE Trim adds 5-inch alloy wheels, power side mirrors, keyless entry, cruise control, metallic interior accents, chrome interior door handles and steering-wheel-mounted audio controls to the base features of halogen headlights, power door locks and windows, air-conditioning, a height-adjustable driver seat, a tilt-only steering wheel, a trip computer, a 60/40-split folding rear seat, Bluetooth phone and audio connectivity, and a six-speaker Entune Audio sound system with a 6.1-inch touchscreen, a CD player, HD radio, an auxiliary audio jack and a USB/iPod interface.
An optional navigation system is available on all models, my test vehicle did not include this.
Powering the Yaris is a 1.5-liter inline four-banger engine producing 106 horses with 103 pound-feet of torque. The manual trany is standard on the LE but my model was equipped with the optional 4-speed automatic. Mileage numbers come in at 30/city, 36/highway and 32/combined mpg.
In government crash tests the four-door hatchback Yaris received four out of five stars for overall crash protection, with four stars for frontal-impact protection and five stars for side-impact protection.
With just a couple of gauges, the interior of the Yaris is simplicity itself. With high mounted front seats, visibility is good. Backseat passengers will be happy too with plenty of legroom in the back. There’s plenty of room for stuff too with 15.6 cubics in the trunk and more when the backseats are down.
While not sporty, the 2016 Toyota Yaris LE will get you where you want to go with little fuss. Acceleration is good around town and it can keep up with the big boys on the highway. The ride is pretty smooth and the cabin relatively quiet.
Looking for a subcompact that is full of extras and won’t break the bank? Give the 2016 Toyota Yaris LE a test drive.
