Pics01-Carina Couture 2Ivivva, a branch of Lululemon, gives the term “retail therapy” a whole new meaning. The newly opened girl’s athletic wear store in Pasadena is about much more than fashion for active girls — it’s about the girls themselves.

Walking into the store feels like you’ve stepped into a 12-year-old’s room and for a good reason — the store was decorated by a Girl Committee, a group of local girls who help make the store their own. The clothing is everything a young girl would like — from bright colors to thoughtful details and Lululemon’s signature fabrics.

IMG_4046Carina Couture organizes the Girl Committees by drawing girls from local ballet classes, sports and just meeting them around the city.

“We’re here to empower the girls and give them what they love,” she said. “I find these gems every which way,” she says of the girls. Couture proudly displays the girl’s photos around the store and plans to create Athlete of the Week profiles on the company’s Facebook page to highlight their achievements.

“We love helping girls up and supporting them,” she said.

IMG_4049The Ivivva philosophy includes Goals and Dreams workshops where team members coach local girls on how to make their dreams into tangible goals. These workshops are popular at dance and fitness studios and Couture hopes to host them at local schools in the near future.

Ivivva also gives back to the community by hosting free fitness classes in the store — some are even led by local girls.

“We have an inspiring 12-year-old choreographer and she’s teaching a hip-hop workshop this weekend,” said Couture. The classes give girls a chance to explore different areas of fitness with friends. “We want them to try new things, bring them together and let them have their own voice,” she said.
