Breaking: U2 has confirmed it will perform in the Rose Bowl on May 20.

Rumors are swirling that U2 is coming back to the Rose Bowl in Pasadena for a reprise performance and that an official revelation could come today.

The rumors started when US fan site @U2 said they had been tipped by a reliable source that U2 and Live Nation will make a major live announcement Monday, January 9, that may include a May 20 performance at the Rose Bowl.

U2 lead singer Bono, in the band’s Christmas Day video, said they’re planning special shows for the 30th anniversary of their album, The Joshua Tree.

“Next year is going to be a big year for the U2 group,” Bono said. “We have ‘Songs of Experience’ coming, and to honor 30 years of ‘The Joshua Tree,’ we have some very special shows coming, very special.”

If they do announce Monday, tickets for the Rose Bowl concert could go on sale starting on January 17, @U2 said.

The Orange County Register is reporting that the May 20 date lines up perfectly with an unannounced two-day concert scheduled for May 20 to 21 at the Rose Bowl. The paper quotes the Rose Bowl Operating Company as saying Live Nation is promoting the event, although Rose Bowl General Manager Darryl Dunn isn’t providing the name of the act nor would confirm an appearance from U2.

Dunn said any announcement about the act would come from the promoter, the OC Register said.

Live Nation brought U2 to the Rose Bowl in 2009 during their 360 Tour. More than 97,000 watched at the stadium and another 10 million watched across 188 countries through a record-breaking live stream on YouTube.

At the Rose Bowl, 2017 will be the first year for the Arroyo Seco Music and Arts Festival, a two-day event put on by Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG), the parent company of Coachella’s promoter, Goldenvoice.

No lineup has been announced for the family-friendly festival, but Dunn said details could come out soon.
