“Guys want to look good — it gives them confidence,” said Ricky Culver, the manager of 18 | 8, a men’s salon on South Lake Avenue. This full service salon offers everything from facials and hot towel shaves to haircuts and manicures.
18 | 8 is a place to relax, explains Culver. They offer Firestone 805 beer on tap, have a big screen TV and a book entirely about beards to entertain customers before their appointments.
“Men are really taking their grooming to the next level,” said Culver. In reference to facial hair, it seems to be the more the hairier — merrier. “Beards are something fun and creative that a guy can really get into to help him stand out,” he said.
The 18 | 8 team is happy to assist seasoned whiskerers or beard newbies and guide them through products, styling and hair care.
Although Culver says they’re all booked for Valentine’s Day, looking good is a year round pursuit. “When they walk out of here, men have confidence and I know for sure that women like men with confidence,” said Culver.
