The Pasadena Rotary Club will be hosting the 2016 Community Grants Award Luncheon on April 27 to award 21 Pasadena non-profit organizations with $38,500 in grants.

According to the Pasadena Rotary Club, 28 organizations applied for grants this year, but the list was winnowed down to the following organizations that focus on serving Veterans and at risk and/or developmentally disabled children under 18 years of age.

The Pasadena Rotary Club was able to award the funds from investment income generated by the foundation.

“It makes a huge impact and it’s the difference between a dividing line when you can keep something going and when you can’t,” explained The Light Bringer Project Managing Director, Patricia Hurley, on the impact of the grant received.

The organizations include: American Legion Post 13, Young and Healthy, Light Bringer Project, Learning Works Charter School, A Noise Within, Foothill Family Services, L.A. Children’s Chorus, Planned Parenthood, Convalescent Aid Society, Boys and Girls Club, Pacific Clinics, Door of Hope, Professional Child Development Associates, Hathaway Sycamores, College Access Plan, Union Station, Ability First, Outward Bound Adventure, Hillsides, Ronald McDonald House, and PCC Foundation.

“Our local foundations are important to us and we are very happy that the Rotary is providing a grant to help us continue our youth advisement program,” said Ken Preston of Outward Bound Adventures, whose organization in its fifth decade of operation.

It is no secret that even a little bit of supply money adds critical value in order to keep programs and services afloat. The impact is felt city wide, in which this year’s efforts aim to keep children and veterans a priority in the community extends much further than residents think.

The common denominator in this equation is to allow organizations to not only survive, but to continue to thrive and enrich community involvement for years to come.

“This grant definitely underscores the value of what services we provide for veteran students at Pasadena City College,” said PCC Foundation Executive Director, Bobbi Abram.

Individual representatives from the organizations will be present to accept their grants in addition to attendees being provided with programs that further detail the awards. Attendance is open to the public and will consist of a lunch, meeting and presentation beginning at 12 p.m. at the University Club of Pasadena, 175 N. Oakland Ave. Tickets cost $31.00.
