The Lanterman Historical Museum Foundation will host an informal flute concert on Sunday, July 17, 2016, with performances at 1:30 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. in the Lanterman Gardens. The concert will be performed by the students of renowned musician, Thea Komen. The “Flutes in Cahoots” ensemble are advanced level teen and adult flute students at her music school, Miss Thea’s Music Studio in La Crescenta.

The concert is free to the public, and tours of the House will available at regular admission. Music selections will be from many different classical eras including living composers both well-known and obscure.

Members of “Flutes in Cahoots” have performed as part of the elite Glendale Youth Orchestra and Verdugo Young Musicians Association, and have received various awards including music scholarships from the Eagle Rock Alumni Association.

Originally from Los Angeles, Komen began her musical training at the age of five. The youngest in a musical family, she was surrounded by music and was encouraged to pursue artistic study in early childhood. Komen began teaching music in 1997.

Komen is the director of the “Flutes in Cahoots” ensemble. She holds a Master’s of Music degree in Afro-Latin music and has been teaching flute and piano since 1997. Komen is also the current flute coach for the Crescenta Valley High School marching and concert bands. More information about Miss Thea’s Music Studio can be found at www.MissThea.com.

“A concert in the garden is a festive way to close out the summer season,” said Melissa Patton, Executive Director of the Lanterman House.
