Kaiser Permanente Baldwin Park awarded a $12,500 grant to Foothill Family, headquartered in Pasadena. The grant provides essential counseling and support services for children and families (i.e. under/uninsured) whose behaviors make them prone to higher rates of mental illness.

“Foothill Family is deeply committed to empowering children and their families to overcome challenges and achieve success in relationships, school, and work,” said Steve Allen, Foothill Family’s Chief Executive Officer. “Receiving a grant from this generous foundation reinforces our belief that strong families are the cornerstones of thriving communities. It all starts with family.”

The grant from Kaiser Permanente will provide Therapeutic Family Services to approximately 200 low-income children and their families throughout the San Gabriel Valley including individual, group, and/or family counseling to help address the mental health, emotional and behavioral issues they face as a result of mental illness, including: pressures of life, family, and employment. Foothill Family’s Therapeutic Family Services goals are two-fold: (1) to help children avoid high-risk behaviors (i.e. teen pregnancy and substance abuse), aiding in their social and emotional development; and, (2) to help parents/caregivers and/or families address issues including: family dysfunction, stress, and, depression; resulting from prolonged exposure to poverty and unhealthy family environments.
