German conductor and composer Matthias Pintscher, Music Director of the Ensemble Intercontemporain who takes up the post of Principal Conductor of the Lucerne Festival Academy this season, will be conducting the Colburn School Orchestra on Saturday, February 4, in a rendering of Mahler’s “Symphony No. 7” and Pintscher’s own double trumpet concerto, “Chute d’étoiles.”

Written in homage to German artist Anselm Kiefer, Pintscher’s piece is named for Kiefer’s work “Falling Stars,” which honored victims of the Holocaust.

The Colburn Orchestra, based at the Colburn School in Los Angeles, will be performing at the Ambassador Auditorium in Pasadena, starting at 7:30 p.m. The presentation is a KUSC Classic Event. KUSC, the University of Southern California’s classical music radio station, will have a table at the concert for a meet and greet with KUSC Host Brian Lauritzen before the performance.

The Colburn School Orchestra receives generous support from Wells Fargo in its community performances. The concerts are supported in part by Metropolitan Associates.

Tickets for the performance on Saturday are $5 to $25. For more information, visit www.colburnschool.edu.

The Ambassador Auditorium is located at 131 S. Saint John Avenue in Pasadena.
