The Pasadena Senior Center opened its doors Monday to the 2017 Tournament of Roses Royal Court for the annual High Tea ceremony that gave community seniors a chance to know the seven young distinguished women during a busy month that includes over 100 appearances before the big parade.

“This event is special because not many people get to see and hear up close from the Rose Queen and it’s a wonderful opportunity for our seniors to meet them,” said Pasadena Senior Center Executive Director Akila Gibbs.

The High Tea afternoon gave curious seniors the chance to ask questions about what it’s like to be and exclusive member of the Royal Court with topics ranging from the stylish wardrobe selections, future plans, memorable moments, career aspirations and much more.

The seven Royal Court members this year are Queen Victoria Castellanos and Princesses Shannon Larsuel, Natalie Petrosian, Maya Khan, Audrey Cameron, Autumn Lundy and Lauren ‘Emi’ Powers.

“I’ve really been able to see how tightly knit the community really is and how supportive everyone is. I love coming to these events and meeting everyone who shows their support and love for the Royal Court,” said Queen Victoria Castellanos.

The ceremony featured an lively stage performance from The Tap Chicks, a tap performance group at the Pasadena Senior Center and an intimate vocal serenade from the Garcia Brothers duo.

“They are all such wonderful young women and I think it gives them an opportunity to mingle with seniors and to talk about their hopes and dreams. We’ve been impressed with them as they are always an impressive group of young women,” said Gibbs.
